The SAGE Awards are named in honor of Sage Cowles with heartfelt appreciation for all she has done for Minnesota Dance. Cowles herself, a choreographer, performer and philanthropist, is recognized for her dance leadership in the Twin Cities and nationally. The SAGE Awards was founded by Stuart Pimsler, who started the program with help from an initial committee of local dance community members. The awards were created to celebrate the dance community and bring national attention to the tremendous amount of high caliber dance activity in the Twin Cities. Dana Kassel and Stuart Pimsler serve as coordinators for the SAGE Awards in collaboration with an Advisory Panel representing the entire Twin Cities dance community. The SAGE Awards are generously supported by The McKnight Foundation and the Minnesota dance community.
Awards recipients will be selected by an anonymous group of peer panelists in the following categories: Performance, Performer, Design, Special Citation, Dance Educator and People’s Choice. Each year SAGE Award recipients receive a commissioned work by a Twin Cities visual artist.
The current panel is in place and seeing work until the season ends on August 31st, 2010. If you are interested in having your work seen and considered by the panel, please send a brief announcement of your show to newsletter(at)southerntheater.org. Deadline for the inclusion in each Wednesday’s newsletter is Monday at noon.
As requested by the community, the SAGE presentation evening has been held at several of the Twin Cities dance venues. Thank you to all of those who joined us for past events.
